So this was my first DIY project of the new year in the new place. I needed better lighting in my makeup space and hadn't thought about how to do it until I was sitting watching YouTube and stumbled upon a easy way to get what I needed. In the picture above is everything you will need. What's not pictured is the hook I used to hang my lights and the bulbs I used which were two packs of daylight bulbs. You can visit your local hardware store to get these items. The light switch control if you can not find at hardware store I did notice target does carry similar switches.
In order to convert this to a plug in fixture you will need to connect the extension cord to the wires of the fixture. Cut of the piece of the cord that you would plug other plugs into. Expose some of the wires because you will be attaching that to the wires of the fixture.
In order to pull the wires back into the fixture remove the socket rims by pulling them off. Pull the wires back thru.
You will connect the rough side of the cord to the white wire and the smooth side to the black wire. Cover those with the caps by simply screwing them on. Tuck all of that back in and then place top plate back on.
I made it so the cord was hanging out the side. After I was happy with the placement I replaced the socket rings. I put in a bulb to test it, plugged it in and we had light! I then took my fixture plug and plugged it into my switch adapter and made sure that worked.
Here is the end result. I took a screw in hook, screwed it into the wall above the mirror and then hung the fixture. The fixture has 4 daylight style bulbs. These bulbs give off great daylight style light. I feel like these are the best for doing your makeup. I do plan to replace the mirror over the cord so that it is not in the way. I keep the switch at the end of my table but I can screw it into the wall if I want. This was quick and easy to to. I absolutely love it. It wasn't expensive at all. I spent under $50 to do this project.
I purchased everything from lowes.
The fixture was $13.98
Extension cord $1.57
Light switch $14.97
Light bulbs (daylight bulbs) 2 packs $11.98 each.
Scissors I had but if needed purchase yourself a good one
C hooks I had already but they can be found at hardware store.
In the original video the girl said she used command strips but this fixture didn't work with using the strips.
Stay tuned for video on desk to vanity update. In the mean time check out my video of this project. I didn't do it live but I did leave the link of Lisa Pullano's video. So you can go check out her video also.
In the meantime stay fabulous divas. Hope this inspired you to do something for your space.
